NATURAL LAUNDRY DETERGENTS

The more you wear your jeans, the more they will begin to reflect your story and how you wear them. When you make an investment in a great quality wardrobe staple like a pair of jeans, you want to make sure they stand the test of time, whilst taking care of our planet too.

WHY SHOULD I SWITCH TO NATURAL LAUNDRY DETERGENT?

Unfortunately, companies are not required by law to list all the ingredients used in laundry detergents. One of the key things to avoid in an ingredients list is ‘fragrance’ as companies do not have to reveal what chemicals they use to make the ‘fragrance’ of their products, which commonly includes harmful ingredients.

At KEEPER Denim, we often get asked about how to best care for your jeans to ensure they last for many years to come. See below for some of our favourite natural, sustainable laundry detergent options:

  1. THE RED HOUSE - SOAPBERRIES

Soapberries, also known as soap nuts are 100% natural and grow in the Himalayas. When these berries are placed in the washing machine, they release a type of surfactant which is the active ingredient in conventional laundry detergents, only this one is natural and biodegradable. The Red House offer certified organic soapberries in a variety of different sized packets.

  1. ZERO CO

Zero Co provides natural laundry detergent in containers made from recycled plastic, that would have otherwise ended up in landfill. They also provide refill sachets, so you don’t need to dispose of the original container once you’ve used it all, which is better for the environment. Their laundry detergent is also made from natural ingredients including citric acid, washing soda and surfactants made from coconut.

  1. RESPARKLE

Resparkle make household cleaning products in Australia using 100% natural ingredients. Plus, they are also on a mission to reduce single-use plastic with their reusable bottles and aluminium refill sachets.

  1. ECOEGG – LAUNDRY EGG

The first product Ecoegg developed was the Laundry Egg and it’s their hero product. It contains mineral pellets that remove dirt from your clothes without toxic chemicals and replaces the need for conventional laundry detergent and fabric conditioner.

  1. ECOSTORE

Ecostore’s laundry liquid is made in New Zealand from plant based materials and does not contain any toxic ingredients such as whiteners, phosphates or artificial fragrances, making them the perfect option for people with sensitive skin.

  1. KOALA ECO

Koala Eco is an sustainable cleaning company who make natural cleaning products that really work. They use botanicals and other plant-based ingredients to make their products, ensuring they are safe for both you and your family.

We hope you found this KEEPER Denim blog post insightful. Remember you don’t need to be perfect; the goal is just to reduce your exposure to any harmful chemicals in your home where you can. You don’t need to throw out all your conventional products and replace them right away. Instead, continue using what you have until they are finished, then when you next go shopping for household cleaning products, consider the non-toxic options that are readily available both at your local supermarket and online.
